We were booked in on for mid October at the Ulster hospital for a planned C-section as our baby was breech position and this was the recommended safest delivery option. This was our first child and although we were excited to meet them, we were also anxious about the procedure ahead.
Esther our midwife met us at 8am and we instantly warmed to her kind nature. She struck a perfect balance of giving us the necessary information as to how things would work, putting our nerves at ease and also sharing in our excitement of what was going to be a very important day in our family and one we will remember forever.
A special mention must also go to our Anaesthetists Team who for me were crucial in supporting me through the operation and making it a calm and special experience. They clearly communicated what we could expect to happen at each stage from getting the spinal injection to talking me through the sensations and noises I could expect to feel and hear at each point in the operation. This really helped me stay calm and aware and engaged in the process of what was happening. They shared genuinely in our excitement and joy at the birth of our baby girl and they were by my side along with my husband throughout the entire operation. They always portrayed a sense of calm control which instilled confidence in both my husband and I.
We will be forever grateful to the whole team who delivered our baby girl Evelyn that day from the nurses and surgeons to those mentioned directly in our story. Although it was never the birth we imagined, it was incredibly special and we will remember it forever. We couldn’t have asked for more from the team. Thank you.
