"Having been attending the Cardiology ..."

About: Northern General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Having been attending the Cardiology Dept for some time I have been very impressed with the care I have received for the most part. As an in patient on 2 occassions I was treated with the greatest respect and dignity and received a high standard of care from both the medical and nursing personnel.

What could be improved

Communication between staff could be better, particularly in relation to follow up appointments and care. I have been missed off waiting lists on more than one occassion which has led to prolonged waits for care and treatment.

The Trust places great importance on excellent communication between staff, patients and their relatives or carers and we apologise that problems were experienced.

Without knowing the specific area being referred to it is difficult to offer a response regarding the particular waiting list and what might have caused a delay. Minimising waiting times is a high priority and we are actively working towards treating all patients within 18 weeks. However, if a patient does experience a problem and it is brought to our attention, we would always investigate the matter and take any appropriate action.

Patients are advised to speak immediately with the staff in the ward or department where they are being treated, or to contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), who will be happy to assist in resolving any problems.
