"Besides my experience at the start ..."

About: Ipswich Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Besides my experience at the start of last year when my father in law was cared for at the end of his life, after suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and cancer, I have visited Ipswich Hospital as the wife of a throat cancer patient. The treatment my father in law and husband have received and the concern shown by members of staff in oncology has been excellent. Time has always been taken to explain the disease, respect has been shown for our feelings and proceedures have been carried out with expertise and kindness shown. The Macmillan nurses, ward staff, radiographers and nutritionists are extremely patient and caring. The communication between different departments was very good, and arrangements were made with community nursing for my husband's return home. We are still visiting the hospital every six weeks for my husband's check ups and throughout the treatment have found the hospital to be clean, and well managed. Some areas are havens for patients with beautiful gardens and original artwork to admire. I cannot thank and praise the staff highly enough for their dedication and hard work.

Yesterday I visited the gynaecology department for an outpatients proceedure and was not surprised to receive the same quality of care in a clean and welcoming environment. I appreciate the value of the service provided by Ipswich hospital staff and am only concerned that the government does everything it can to support it.

What could be improved

I would appreciate warning of waiting times on arrival.
