This story is about an extremely rude staff member in RVH who treated my elderly mum with chronic pain appalling. My mum had to make the journey to RVH which is difficult in itself due to her chronic pains. She went to the EODU, 1st Floor, EENT Building at the RVH. Mum gets Botox for medical reasons and this is to help keep her eye open and stop her face from dropping. When my mum arrived at the reception area, the receptionist was extremely short with her but she is too tired to be complaining.
She had sat for a while but was aware that the receptionist hadn't pulled her notes ready for the nurse/dr to see her. Mum waited from for 30 mins and people who had come in after her were called, she continue to get annoyed because sitting on the hospital chairs isn't the most comfortable thing when you have pains, my dad was also with her and he was annoyed also. She decided to go up to the same receptionist and mentioned that her appointment was for over due but she was basically told to sit down.
She waited another wee while and when the receptionist got up to somewhere my mum used this opportunity to speak to a nurse about the situation. The nurse was lovely as was the Dr, they both had been looking for mum. The nurse said that she is within her right to complain but she is too tired to make a fuss, hence why I am doing this. As mum was annoyed her blood pressure was high, the injections going into her face, under her eye was excruciating, she feels this is because she was annoyed.
If you are in a caring environment you must show compassion, Treat people how you would like to be treated yourself.
