I recently spent 5 nights in ward 5 at the BGH with pneumonia. From the minute I went into the hospital I felt that my care provided was 150% I was very well looked after and the whole process was dealt with very professionally.

I could see that the doctors, nurses, health care worker and domestic staff we all under a lot of pressure due to circumstances out of their control but it did not take away from my care.

We had banter and they attended to my every need and they always did it with a smile on their faces.

I felt very well looked after. 

My family were kept informed and were never made to feel left out due to the fact that they couldn’t visit.

Dear KLB39,

I don't get the opportunity to respond to Care Opinion stories as often as I would like to anymore but I wanted to let you know that your story really cheered up my week!

As Medical Director in NHS Borders, I am incredibly proud of the unbelievable care that is delivered across our organisation - a fact that is even more amazing given the fatigue and exhaustion that all our staff are facing following an incredibly challenging 2 years. Our fantastic staff have proven time and time again how compassionate and caring they are, both towards our patients and also towards each other.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us of your experience. I'm also really delighted that you mentioned our domestic staff who are often the unsung heroes but are a very critical component of our teams and frequently provide real comfort to patients as they go about their jobs.

I very much hope that you are now fully on the way to recovery from your pneumonia.
