My mother was originally taken into Oldham Royal six weeks ago and was diagnosed with Cellulitis in her foot. The hospital did everything they could to prevent gangrene and possible amputation. Unfortunately due to several other health issues my mother suffered from which included a weak heart, any operation the hospital wanted to perform would have killed her. During a case conference with key staff, they explained that my mother would die in hospital as the gangrene would spread from her foot and she would experience a painful death. They then went on to tell us about the LCP Programme as alternative form of pain relief. The staff in the hospital explained everything to us on more than one occasion about LCP. My father was reluctant to go down this route as he had read several disturbing articles about LCP. My mum was eventually put on LCP last week. I can never thank enough the nursing staff and doctors of Ward T3. They were truly magnificent with the help and support they gave to both my mother and my family. As a family we got to know all of the nursing staff personally and the overall care and dedication they showed to my mother was truly overwhelming. We are constantly informed by the media that the NHS is in decline and that staff performance levels have reduced. Nonsense, I would suggest that anyone who doubts what true care and dedication means then they should spend a day with the staff on Ward T3. My Mum sadly passed away yesterday with complete piece and dignity and surrounded by her family. Thank you so much again to all the staff.
