"My accident"

About: Derriford Hospital North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency North Devon District Hospital / Fracture Clinic North Devon District Hospital / Stroke services (ASU) North Devon District Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My experience is quite complicated. I had an accident on the farm and was taken to the A & E at Barnstaple hospital. After an x-ray I was admitted to the fracture ward. The X-rays were sent to Plymouth hospital for advice. Plymouth hospital then said they needed further scans which I had done. It was a full 3 days before Plymouth responded and advised a course of action. Once the treatment began it went well.

Three weeks later, I had a TIA and was moved to the stroke ward, but the paperwork and forms that were completed while I was in there didn’t get to fracture ward and this delayed me a further 7 days before beginning the hydrotherapy.

I have no fault with anything since then, and I would like to add that all the staff have done everything they can to help me recover including arranging a hospital bed and walker aid for me to have at home. I was always treated with care and respect too. I am now on my way to be able to walk with crutches.

I just thought there was no need to involve Plymouth, Barnstaple were more than capable of looking after me.
