"Feeling let down by the NHS"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service

(as a service user),

I had to call an ambulance for my Type 1 Diabetic son on Saturday.  He was in major distress and in the midst of an extremely severe hypo. I was struggling to administer his life saving glucose and as he is getting much bigger and stronger I could barely control him to help him. I made the decision to call a 999 for an ambulance and medical assistance as I thought he was seriously in danger, however the operator said she wouldn’t send one and that they would need to get someone to call me back and asses the situation first.

Whilst I know the NHS is under a lot of stress I would have thought that a type 1 diabetic minor would have been classed as a top priority, considering in the 7 years he’s been diagnosed that’s only the 2nd time I’ve ever had to call for assistance.

I feel completely let down by the NHS regarding this and it has scared me to the point that I don’t want to let my son out of my sight. I feel extremely let down by the NHS and hope I can be given some sort of explanation as to why this happened.

Dear Chaz86956

Thank you for your Feedback. I am really sorry you felt let down by our Service when your son was unwell.

it would be really helpful if I could have more information to allow me to have this matter looked into for you if I may? Please would it be possible for you to contact myself directly on 07385038883 to discuss this further or if it is easier, by email to lesley.kay@nhs.scot.

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards

Lesley
