"Angina clinic appointment"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Coronary Care/Medical Monitoring Unit

(as a relative),

I took my mum to an appointment today at a rapid angina clinic at Antrim hospital which was arranged for her following an episode of chest pain a few weeks ago.

She was seen by Dr Morten. He was so thorough and took the necessary time to get mum's history and listen to us. He appeared to genuinely care and gave good advice and explained his assessment of the situation. We left feeling reassured.

This in my opinion was a stark contrast to the experience we had in Antrim ED a few weeks earlier where unfortunately the doctor was abrupt and dismissive and spoke entirely in medical lingo, explaining nothing to my elderly mum in language she could understand.

It makes such a difference when someone has compassion and it's more than just a job to them.

Dear CJ72,

My name is Sarah I am a Patient Client Experience Facilitator within the Trust. I am pleased to read you had a positive experience when attending the Rapid Angina clinic with your Mum.

In contrast I am sorry to read that your previous experience in Antrim ED was less positive. I will ensure that both of these departments receive your story and I hope you will get feedback from them soon.

I hope your Mum is keeping well at the present time.

Sarah

dear CJ72,

I apologise for your mothers experience in Antrim ED, and that the medical staff spoke to her in language that was not clear. I will ensure your feedback is passed on at team meetings and staff are reminded of clear communication with patients, to ensure they understand what has happened to them at a difficult time.

Mark
