"Minor Injuries Unit opening times not correct on…"

About: Victoria Hospital W'borne

Why are the opening hours not correctly listed on the Wimborne Hospital Minor Injuries website? This is vital information that avoids the major AE department at Bournemouth hospital becoming overloaded. The website said on Sunday 24th April that the minor injuries unit was open until 8pm and we travelled from Verwood to find that it was closed. What a painful waste of time and petrol. I notice that the bank holiday opening times are not published for the 2nd May, the details are also not available on the answerphone. Surely directing patients to ring 111 just diverts them to an already overloaded system?

Dear Anonymous,

The Dorset HealthCare NHS website is up to date with all of the latest opening times for the MIU units and are listed accurately. Whilst we always try to avoid last minute closures, in some cases this is done as a last resort and in response to an unplanned event. We do apologise that on this occasion the Wimborne MIU unit was closed at the hours you needed to attend. We will in future communicate any early closing of the units on our social media pages and ensure adequate signage is place at the entrance in order to signpost you to the next available facility.
