My oncologist had requested a CT scan for me in April so that we may discuss the results at my next Beatson visit in May. Previous scans have been performed at my local hospital which is five minutes away from me.
This time however, I was allocated an appointment at the Vale of Leven Hospital, Dumbarton. A round trip of forty miles! Since there was nothing I could do about changing the appointment to a closer hospital AND have the results on time, I made the road trip to Vale of Leven.
All the staff I met on the day were very pleasant and very helpful. They even asked for the date of my appointment so as to request results were reported on time.
Disappointingly, I attended my appointment with no CT scan results to discuss.
3 weeks after the scan date I have called the scan department at Vale of Leven. The helpful staff could confirm that my scan has not yet been reported on and no one qualified to do so will be in the department that day or the next. They suggested that I ask my oncologist to call the department and request it is looked at more urgently. When they have the staff to do that!
So time goes by again. And what happens if the scan shows something that requires action or treatment? How long will I wait to hear and how long will I be expected to wait for treatment?
Why is the Vale of Leven scan department accepting people for scan appointments when there is no one to assess the scans or report on them? Ticking boxes again and I feel the patient doesn't matter. When will there be hope of receiving any results?
"Still waiting for results of my CT scan"
