"Today I have witnessed real nursing care"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital

(as a service user),

I am an inpatient in Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry on level 5 Medical Ward. he Ward is extremely busy with very ill patients some of whom at times, can be confused and aggressive.

The staff are completely run of their feet, they are so attentive and friendly despite the look of exhaustion on their faces. I want to mention in particular a third year student Chloe who is doing her management and a staff nurse Susan both of whom have showed their skills of compassion and caring, because despite the crazy business of the ward they sat and fed all the elderly patients, ensuring they were hydrated. They sat and chatted to those who needed reassurance or just a friendly ear. In the middle of all the essential nursing Susan found the time to get on her knees wash an elderly mans feet and cut his toe nails and she painted an elderly woman’s fingernails. Today I have witnessed real nursing care, a credit to Daisy Hill Hospital nursing staff.
