"Huge praise to the dermatology doctors & staff"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Dermatology University Hospital Ayr / Dermatology

(as a service user),

I saw dermatologist Dr Waters recently at Ayr Hospital, he was unsure as to diagnosis of my severe deformed nail issues .

Prompt appointment today with Dr Colgan & six other dermatologists at 2E Crosshouse, who wanted to examine me. They advised my condition is a rare genetic condition. It causes the skin to thicken & nails to twist into a point where both nails join together. It's extremely painful & nothing has helped alleviate the pain. The doctors were very thorough, understanding & professional.

Dr Colgan said they would try using different treatments to see if would soften my very thick deformed nails/skin, rather than surgery to remove 6 fingernails & 8 toenails!

Will see Dr Waters again soon & try this treatment. Hoping & praying it works as it's so painful. Huge praise to the dermatology doctors 🙌🌈 & staff who have gone beyond to help me, I'm so grateful!

Thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to share your lovely feedback. The Dermatology team, especially Dr Waters and Dr Colgan will be delighted to hear that you have felt so well supported through the process of reaching a diagnosis. This is a great example of a team working together to provide person-centred care.

It is my sincere hope that the treatment planned will lead to an improvement in your symptoms.

With all best wishes.

Linda

Dear B Menzies

Many thanks for your kind words of appreciation of the care you have received from the Dermatology medics.

I hope the treatment suggested helps and relieves the pain you are currently suffering.

It is lovely to hear when patients have had a positive experience of attending the departments at both Ayr and Crosshouse and I am sure Dr Waters and Dr Colgan would want me to thankyou for taking the time to post your feedback. I will ensure to share your feedback with them and the rest of the team.

With kind regards

Sandra

Update posted by B Menzies (a service user)

Linda & Sandra, I cannot praise the dermatology staff enough at Ayr & Crosshouse hospital. This is a painful problem I've had for 35plus years & never thought about dermatology. So glad I asked my GP for a referral, which he kindly did.

I'll follow the dermatolgists advice 100% really hoping the treatment works & saves on needing surgery! Both hospital teams coordinated & worked together & saw me very quickly. They were very understanding, professional, empathic & highly knowledgeable. This was very reassuring, I felt understood, we now have a plan & answers as to what's going on & the best way forward. Very grateful to all staff who have helped me🌈🙌 BM
