"Registering for a GP"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

I live only 3 minutes walking distance to my nearest medical practice.

Firstly, this GP didn’t accept new patients at this time.

Secondly, I had have to register my family to a GP which is far away from my house due to urgently needed medication for my son and daughter who have asthma, dry skin, and allergies etc.

Thirdly, later on, the first GP re-accepted new patients after 3 months but refused us to transfer to them.

I don’t understand why our family would not use most convenient and closest services? Both my children have regular prescription as well. Meanwhile, population of the town gets higher and higher!

Why couldn’t we have a large health center like other towns?

Who can help us to register or transfer our practice?

Dear Eddie55

Thank you for taking time to provide your feedback through Care Opinion.

During the pandemic there were some temporarily Scottish Government policies put in place for new patient registrations to enable General Practice (GP’s) to better support staff and to continue to deliver their service with the many Covid19 restrictions. Some GP Practice lists were closed and GP Practices were given the flexibility to decline registration requests if the patient was already registered in the area. From reading your feedback it looks like you have been trying to register during this period.

However, some of these policies and restrictions have now been removed. If you would like to contact me direct and advise which practices you are referring to I can arrange for the relevant practice managers to have further discussions with you. My contact number is: 0141 451 0749.

In East Renfrewshire we are very fortunate to have two new purpose built Health and Care Centres across our localities which host many services, including eight GP Practices. We have one in Barrhead and one in Clarkston. A full list of GP Practices for your postcode can be found on the NHS Inform website.

Thank you

Claire Fisher
