"Mum treated with genuine care and respect - what a difference"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a carer),

What a difference between the day & night shift staff. Day shift nurses & doctors seemingly had no interest in my Mum’s symptoms, my concerns or valuing her basic needs of food, drink & being assisted to go to the lavatory.

Night shift came on, nurse immediately removed the ECG wires/pads & the battery block, got commode for Mum, got her a proper bed, not a trolley & arranged a hot meal & cup of tea for her. Doctor introduced himself, spoke directly & kindly to my Mum. Actually wanted to know what has been happening with Mum & listened to my concerns.

Explained what they believed was the cause of her falls, explained further tests to be done, immediate medication & that she would be in at least tonight & tomorrow.

I popped out to update family members & when I came back she was on the ward, medication given & settled for the night.

Thank you to the night shift nurse and to the medical team doctor, you treated my Mum with genuine care & respect ❤️
