"Women's Day Clinic - Colposcopy experience"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services Outpatients / Women's Day Clinic

(as a service user),

I attended the Women's Day Clinic yesterday for Colposcopy after having abnormal cells detected in a smear.  The staff who looked after me were absolutely lovely. The nurse doing the procedure was so kind and explained everything so well. She was teaching a medical student and the other 2 nurses present were great at keeping me occupied with chit chat while the procedure took place.  I had to have diathermy treatment which I was given the option to have there and then or at a later date.  I opted to have it there and then and though it was uncomfortable, it was nowhere near as bad as I feared and I put this down to the nurse being so careful and gentle. I really appreciated her care. I wish I could remember their names but I was so anxious that I forgot as soon as they were told to me!  Please pass on my thanks to the unit.  They did a great job.

Good afternoon appreciative76

Firstly, I would like to apologise for the length of time it has taken to respond to your feedback.

It is a delight to hear that your experience was as positive as you have described. The team work hard to ensure all our patients are well supported during clinic appointments. Thank you for taking the time to feedback your observations of the staff being 'absolutely lovely' and 'kind' during what was such a personal and uncomfortable procedure for you. I am glad that you felt their approach was comforting and they were able to put you at ease during this stressful time.

I am delighted to hear that you managed to have your diathermy treatment on the same day to reduce any delay in your treatment.

I wish you all the best and have shared your kind words with Judith our specialist nurse and the wider team.

Best Wishes

Alice Ritchie

Clinical Nurse Manager
