I want to acknowledge the recent experience my son, myself and my Husband have received via the Helios mental health, Autism and ADHD service @ www.healios.org.uk.
My teenage son was referred for an Autism assessment to my in county neurodevelopment service and rather than wait for up to two years for assessment, I opted for an online assessment.
Although sceptical at first, due to my belief that assessments are best face to face, my sons age was a major factor in me opting for online (year 11 with exams on the horizon). The response time from Helios was fantastic, all communication from them was timely, clear and organised. From assessment to diagnosis, it was 9 weeks.
The assessment was in two parts and included an observation. The framework for assessment was clear, thorough and detailed and conducted in a friendly, non judgemental way by very knowledgeable clinicians. They put my son at ease and worked to his strengths and the feedback session following the assessment was very informative and reassuring!
My only wish is that Helios could offer consistency of care by conducting the ADHD assessment that they have recommended in their assessment report and the frustration that I will need to start the entire process again via CAMHS is a frustrating one, given current wait times.
However, Helios have been an excellent service to work with and I would highly recommend them to others in similar circumstances.
