"Kilbryde Hospice Community Choir sings again at the hospice"

About: Kilbryde Hospice / Music Therapy

(as other),

Anna has led a community choir based at Kilbryde Hospice, East Kilbryde.  Due to Covid-19, the choir met on Zoom for 2 years. But it has been able to meet again in the cafe at the entrance of the hospice.

'Walking back to happiness' was a good choice on the songlist.  After 20 minutes breathing and vocal preparation, we sang for 40 minutes. Several people in the cafe stopped to listen, even joining in a bit of banter.

We sang one or two songs which we learned while on Zoom, like the sea shanty 'Wellerman'. Everyone was delighted to meet face to face and we managed a few impromptu harmonies especially with 'Bird Song'.

With others on the choir, I'd like to thank Anna and the Hospice for this important meeting place between users of the hospice and the wider East Kilbryde community.  There's even a Kilbryde song we sing about how we find the experience of choir.

Dear Douglasw02

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story of the return of Kilbryde Community Choir to the hospice building. The last time the choir sang in the hospice atrium was the 11th of March 2020 and Anna has conducted approximately 108 online sessions since June 2020. This is an amazing feat, and we are very grateful to Anna for her passion and motivation to keep the choir going. We aim to keep the Zoom service going so that people can attend at home when they cannot attend in person for whatever reason. As Clinical Services Director, I'm delighted that you were still able to benefit from the choir at home via Zoom during COVID-19 however you are not alone in your happiness that the choir could return to singing in person.

The choice of song is never lost on Anna, and I love the choice of Walking Back to Happiness and good to hear there were some old favourites too. I imagine you and the rest of the choir are delighted to be back and we are equally excited and delighted to hear your wonderful singing. As you may or may not be aware we are keeping the group small for a couple of weeks just in case there needs to be any tweaks to the infection control arrangements but hopefully we will be able to extend the invite out to others soon.

Douglasw02, I hope you continue to reap the benefits of the choir both from a breathing and voice perspective. I will be certain to feed this very positive feedback and thanks from you and the rest of the choir to Anna. This will give her a great boost.

Keep singing!

Margaret Mary Cowan
