"Having a pacemaker fitted"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiology University Hospital Ayr / Cardiology

(as the patient),

After a long wait I eventually arrived at Ayr Hospital one dark October morning. I was to have a pacemaker fitted and was anxious and apprehensive. My wife accompanied me up to Station 6 where I was warmly greeted by the nursing staff and she took her leave. Half an hour later I was being operated on by a team of specialists in the OR, from Surgeon through technicians to support. A couple of hours later I was back on the ward and released later that day.

This was a perfect example of coordinated teamwork between Ward and OR staff. I was treated with respect, dignity and care.

I now look forward to my 6 week follow-up at Crosshouse and continuing care. As my wife said on leaving, 'They were awfy nice people!'.
