"Compassion and high standards of care"

About: The Ulster Hospital / Ward 5D (Endo/Renal)

(as a relative),

My father was recently admitted  to 5d and unfortunately he passed away after  a hospital stay of 2 weeks

I felt I had to come on here and thank all the staff for the excellent nursing care he received whilst there.

Every member of staff we met were compassionate, kind and caring. My dad, due to his condition, wasn’t always the easiest to manage, but the staff always showed him such kindness and were always on hand to reassure him and look after not only him but our family.

When we visited they always made a point of asking my mum how she was as they knew this was such a difficult time for her. They genuinely cared about my dad and our family and this really showed.

I can’t name all the staff as they were all so good, but special mention to ward manager Audrey, who always had time to talk to me about how he was and what had been said on the Drs round.

Thank you to all the nurses, including Ashleigh, Pamela, Jenny, Rani, Kelly, Laura, Emma and Ellen (sorry I know there are more but I didn’t get all the names) big thanks  to the auxiliaries Doreen and Amanda, and thank you to Dr Harper and a really kind Dr Beth, who was always happy to come and update us on his condition and treatment plans.

Thank you to the dementia nurse, Philip, who took time to talk to us and explain all the plans he had for my dad.

Unfortunately my dad deteriorated very quickly one night and I know the staff did everything they could, but he sadly passed away and I would like to highlight the care and compassion shown to me and my family by Nurse Vanessa. She is truly an angel and what was the most distressing time was made easier by her kindness and support.

I was with my dad alone waiting on my family rushing to the hospital and she never left my side, she constantly was reassuring me and ensuring my dad was comfortable. I want Vanessa to know how much  she helped us and how much of a comfort this brought to us.

I would like to thank all of you, as this has helped us enormously knowing our dad was cared for so well in his final weeks.

Dear Jazzle1949

Thankyou for taking the time to give us as a team such positive feedback during this difficult sad time for you and your family.

It was a privilege for us to nurse your father in his last few weeks and to support you all through his difficult journey. I will pass on your kind words to the rest of the team and thankyou once again for taking the time to send us feedback.

Condolences to you and your family

Audrey
