My dad suddenly fell ill and spent subsequent months in ICU and hospital. During this period we were constantly told his chance of survival was very low, and then that he could possibly be severely brain damaged and need care for the rest of his life.
He is a miracle and came home after rehab relatively back to normal.
I began to struggle with severe anxiety that led to me needing time off work, pulling away from friends and avoiding social situations. Many things would suddenly trigger me and bring me back to that awful time and I’d burst into tears.
I reached out to therapy at the suggestion of my GP and I am so glad I did. Monica was my therapist and she quickly diagnosed me with PTSD and put a plan in place to start EMDR therapy.
It was scary and I was nervous before each session, but it has made a marked improvement on my mental health and general well-being.
It was the best decision I made and helped me to come to terms with and process a traumatic event.
