About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow

(as a carer),

I attended hospital with my husband, who has advanced Parkinson's disease and is wheelchair bound. There are plenty of disabled bays, but they are continually parked in by people who are not displaying blue badges, and are therefore not entitled to park there.

On my previous visit I ended up on the rooftop car park, as I was unable to find a disabled space, as the vast majority of spaces were yet again taken by non blue badge holders.

I find this situation wholly unacceptable, and think the car park needs monitored with those parking without a blue badge being penalised in some way. A warning sticker for example could be used. Thank you for allowing me to vent my frustration in this matter.

Firstly, please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this incident may have caused.

We are aware of incidences of inappropriate parking in blue badge spaces at the QEUH, and across our sites, where we have managed car parking in place.

We work closely with Group Nexus, our parking contractor, to ensure their staff patrol the campus and take appropriate action, including issuing Unauthorised Parking Notices (UPN) to vehicles parked illegally.

Unfortunately, as you can imagine, this is challenging due to the size of the sites, managing the available resource and the high number of vehicles that access the site, particularly at peak times. However, we will continue to work closely with Group Nexus to ensure appropriate action is taken for all vehicles parked illegally in blue badge spaces.

Thank you for the reply to my issue with disabled parking at the Queen Elizabeth, Glasgow.

There really is an issue with able bodied people

parking in disabled spaces.

I am hoping you can target this issue to save a really

a difficult Situation for wheelchair users in particular.

Perhaps as well as UPN’s you could put warning signs in place as another deterrent.
