My grandson was admitted to Borders General Hospital yesterday as a day patient to WD 15 to receive dental treatment . He lives with autism so the day was going to be very stressful for him, mum and me. The staff in WD15 were fantastic, they showed us compassion, made him feel calm, and listened to both his mum and me when we explained what would trigger stress and found alternatives and problem solved to ensure he remained as calm as possible.
The orthodontist Martin was a shinning example of what NHS Borders has to offer , he kept mum and me informed at all times and showed compassion and care. The anaesthetist Miss Livingston displayed a person centred approach to caring for my grandson and her sensible approach made it much less stressful all of us, as a family we are extremely grateful to her. The recovery staff in theatre were amazing also. Every day my grandson struggles to understand the world around him but the staff at NHS Borders kept him at the centre of the care they delivered. To often we hear a lot of negative comments about the NHS but I can only comment on our experience so NHS Borders showed us care and compassion , understanding and kept us at the centre of everything they did.
Thank you NHS Borders from a very grateful family .
