For Day 2 of our Christmas Good News, I've picked out a story from Sure Start in Ashfield.

A story of wonder and joy from Sure Start

"Thought I'd tell my story. Dating, expecting, excited. Can't wait to welcome little one, this is amazing, love throughout... Child developing, amazing, all is good!

Work ain't fulfilling! Do something different. Midlife! ! ?

Get off backside… do a Sure Start community course, then another one, and another. Where is this leading to? No idea! go with it!

I'm a volunteer at Sure Start! Amazing! Really? yes! ! Enrolled on level 3 NVQ course.

Complete, job advert, apply, interview, nervous. interview, kill it, get job! Thank you Community Worker for your support!"

You can read this story on Patient Opinion

What this story means to me

I love this story, it fills me with hope. It never ceases to amaze me the way people open up on Patient Opinion, and the personal stories that they share.

Thinking about our work, I wonder if the author would have felt inclined to send a "thank you" to the organisation by way of a more traditional route, and would they have received a reply from the service on the same day? I imagine that much of the feeling and excitement they share (and I felt on reading it!) might become diluted.

I feel a real privilege and pride to be part of an organisation that facilitates these (online) conversations.

I wish the author and their family many more happy times ahead, and congratulate staff at Sure Start for such fantastic, life changing work.

Miriam
