You will be aware from media coverage that a patient went missing last weekend following a period of unsupervised leave from Springfield Hospital which had been planned and approved as part of his care plan and preparation for discharge. He has now been returned safely back to our care. Unsupervised leave is part of recognised clinical practice and for secure and forensic services, and is approved by the Ministry of Justice.
It was a shame to see certain media coverage focus specifically on the sensational aspects of a case instead of trying to tackle the stigma and discrimination that people with mental illness face. Going forwards we will aim to work much closer with the media to tackle the stigma and discrimination.
Tell us what you think and if you would like to be involved with us on this important issue.
