Gift: Joyful giving

Update from Care Opinion Scotland

Our final gift blog comes in the form of a lovely story sent to us by “NHS AandA Staff Member”. We didn’t publish it as a story as it doesn’t meet our moderation guidelines: it’s not a direct experience of health or care.  However we did want to share it in some way.

I was at an event where the NHS Fife staff choir were performing their first concert on St Andrews Day on the 30th of November 2014 in Torbain Parish Church Kirkcaldy. The evening was a sell out and the church was full. The choir sang some Scottish songs and also some Christmas themed songs too.

My sister who works for NHS Fife is part of the choir and joined a few months ago. She was asked to join the choir by one of her friends and colleagues. The choir was formed to bring staff together to enhance well being within the staff community.

Money raised was going to the Sally Magnussen charity- Playlist for Life , who provide iPods for dementia patients helping them to connect with their memories through the music they enjoy and Well at Work which helps NHS staff achieve work-life balance through various activities.

I would just like to say how enjoyable the evening was and how well the staff performed. I can see from the happy faces of the performers that being part of a staff choir does give a sense of achievement. My sister says she always feels great after rehearsals but even better after performing in front of a large audience.

Well done to the chaplain for NHS Fife and founder of the choir and all the staff choir members in helping staff to achieve a work-life balance through singing.

What a lovely post that demonstrates the value and connectivity of staff experience to patient experience. This is at the heart of what we are trying hard to achieve in Fife. Watch this space....Torbain this year, choir of year next perhaps! I will make sure the choir get to see this so they know someone is singing their praises!
