"My appointment procedure for the vascular clinic"

About: NHS Fife Queen Margaret Hospital / Vascular Surgery Victoria Hospital / Vascular Surgery

(as the patient),

I was referred by my GP (1 apt).

I was seen by a nurse for an assessment (2nd apt).

I was referred to have the scan done (3rd apt).

I had a scan done, thought I would be a candidate for clarivein treatment, but had to go back to the nurse to be told this (4th apt).

Went to the nurse again who confirmed I would be a candidate and I would need an apt for a stocking fitting; I would receive some information via the post (she could have handed it to me on the day) (postage) (5th apt).

I should then take my stocking along to have the procedure carried out (6th apt).

While the professionals I saw were excellent and I wasn't kept waiting for any of my appointments, I do think this could have been dealt with in 2 or 3 appointments rather than 6?

It might save time, effort and cost within the NHS if some services could be streamlined?

Hello Vari

Thanks for taking the time to contact us about this. I passed your post on to Heather Knox, Director of Acute Services who said -

"It is always really helpful to get feedback from patients and your experience would certainly suggest to me that we could potentially streamline our service I will ask the team to have a look at this".

Regards and thanks again for taking the time to give us your feedback.

Hello again Vari

I am writing to let you know that we received a response from the Vascular Team.

First, they asked me to say thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback which they welcome. The issue you raise is one that the team was already aware of and had been discussing recently.

The team have confirmed that from February there is a plan to streamline the clinics as you suggest which will mean that patients will be asked to attend a one stop clinic following referral from the GP. At the one stop clinic patients will have access to assessment, tests, results as well as an ongoing plan for treatment where required.

There may be an additional requirement for a patient to attend the Appliance Department; however this too is being considered by the team.

Hope this feedback is reassuring

Regards

Louise Ewing
