I have mixed feelings about New Cross Hosp.
I was admitted to the Gynaecology ward, where I found the ward to be clean & fairly quiet. However the nursing staff, although friendly greatly lack common sense!
1.I was asked by a nurse if she should get a bowl of water for my wash, day after my op.I could just about stand (you are told not to lift heavy items for 3months).
2.My towel fell on the floor, it stayed there for 7hrs. 3 nurses came over a period of time didn't pick it up & one actually stood on it.
3.Realising when they move your bed tray, to please but it back so you can reach it. Plenty of water but jug to heavy to lift.
4. On discharge (2nd day after op) the staff nurse did paper work & said I could go, forgot about diabetic medication in the locker( my husband remembered this). No wheel chair was offered, I had to ask, & the reply was if we have one! I was expected to walk to the lift & then from the lift to the car park.It had been an effort walking to the toilet. Hosp after care info stated no longer than 5mins.
5.My biggest concern was that as a diabetics meal times were a problem, I was told by the meal staff diabetics weren't catered for! I had to ask if any fruit available.
Perhaps nurses should spend time as a patient & they may realise the care & common sense needed, or bring back older nurses on the wards to train these people in common sense.
"Nursing staff lack common sense & care."
