My Mother was recently admitted after having a fall and breaking 9 ribs - the care she received in Trauma Ward was fantastic - However, I noticed next to her name no step down and asked what this meant. I was advised that they wouldn't be moving her until she was stable - then today she was transferred to Albert Ward (why??) On arrival at Albert Ward they were told she wasn't expected and that they didn't take major trauma patients - eventually (after about an hour) they accepted her. I am concerned as on the Trauma Ward there were a lot of nurses to Patients, but on Albert the staffing is much less - and as my Mother is elderly and is having good days and bad, I am worried that she is not going to get the care she deserves and needs. After speaking to a nurse this evening I was advised that they are a re-hab ward - but my Mother is still not well enough for this - as only a week ago I was told she may not make it! What say if any, do we get in where she is treated, I appreciate all wards are under pressure, but just because she is elderly it does not mean she needs less attention - if anything she needs more!
