"District nurses"

About: District Nursing Teams / District Nursing Team - Kilmarnock

(as the patient),

A district nurse recently came into my home,  at the time I was upstairs helping to give my wife a shower, so I wasn’t the quickest in answering the door, so to my surprise they just walked in and said I have been asked to drop off some paper work, so goodbye.

I know they were most probably under time pressure back just walk in, hmm , then I knew that I had seen them before, they were the district nurse who came into my home and took some staples out of my knee. I asked them to look at the back of that leg as I had open sores on it from when I was discharged from hospital. They took a look and tried to put a plaster on the largest sore that soon fell off, they said they couldn’t do anything about them because I had hairy legs.

They couldn’t finish taking the staples out as my leg  started to bleed so they stopped and put a replacement long plaster on and reinstalled the pico on and someone would come along in a couple of days. It seems that some people who are supposed to be in the caring game should have some care in them, not doing half a job

Dear DisappointtedAyrshire,

Thank you for taking the time to provide the story from your experience of the District Nursing team.

I am really sorry to hear about the lack of communication and attitude you experienced. Whilst providing care in your home we strive to ensure we are both caring and compassionate, whilst respecting your home environment. If you agree I would like to hear more about this so that I can ensure you and others do not experience this in the future.

I am the Clinical Nurse Manager for the District Nursing service in East Ayrshire and you are welcome to email me on lindsay.collins@aapct.scot.nhs.uk or call me on 07384 804175. Alternatively if you contact our Single Point of Contact (SPOC) on 01563 826600 then you will be able to speak with Beth Sinclair, Clinical Team Leader.

Many thanks,

Lindsay
