"The dept had no information on my case"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / General Surgery Omagh Primary Care Complex / Day Procedure Unit

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with gallstones in 2018 and informed I would need my gallbladder removed and the doctor recommended I would be placed on the waiting list. 

Fast Forward to 2024 having been extremely patient as I fully understand the hospitals in NI are barely coping and I didn’t want to cause any further burden to them I was advised to call the relevant department and find out where I was on the waiting list. 

I followed the advise to be told I was not on the list and the dept had no file or information on my case. I was shocked to say the least but the lovely secretary could only apologise for the mistake and put my case forward to be looked at. (April 24) 

In June I seen a surgeon who further advised gallbladder removal and in July I was offered an appointment in Omagh hospital in August for the surgery.. 

I was treated as a day surgery patient by an extremely friendly caring professional team 

Could not fault the exceptional care I received at this hospital facility.

I was sorry to read of your long wait and therefore have shared your story with partial booking staff for further sharing among their team and potential learning. Normally when patients have been waiting for a period of time, staff would advise contacting partial booking to seek an update on waiting list/ appointment times and dates etc. I appreciate you have had treatment however this may be helpful to know if in a similar situation again
