"They had me second-guessing conversations"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as a service user),

I was spoken to like I was utter rubbish at the bottom of someone's shoe by my local practice surgery staff.

I phoned the surgery (because they had not phoned me both times they said they would). The person on the phone did not listen to me. Asked for my details 4 times, didn't listen to what I was asking and was giving answers that did not apply to my circumstances (had they listened to me - they would have known that). I was also misled and told that no one was in on certain days (due to public holidays) to call me when, if they'd listened, I'd received a call from the Pain Team on the Friday who are outside of the area. They had me second-guessing conversations I was sure I'd had and it was only when I checked my phone records that I realised I was right.

I got the feeling she would do anything to end the phone call rather than help someone. This is a surgery that has signs everywhere about not being abusive to staff, but it's ok for staff to be abusive (and yes - I count gaslighting as abuse) to the patients?

I suffer from chronic pain and I could have done without the attitude this morning.

Dear Regeneration

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us via Care Opinion. I am very sorry to hear of the situation you have described and that you have had such a negative experience.

I respond on behalf of the Primary Care Team. We can liaise with the GP Practice to make them aware of your comments and ask them to look into this further. To do this, please can you send an email to HSCPAdmin@east-ayrshire.gov.uk (marked for the attention of Primary Care) providing the details of your GP Practice.

If you wish to remain anonymous, we can feed back your comments to the GP Practice for their awareness and learning.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and am so very sorry it has not been positive on this occasion.

Kind regards

Danielle

Update posted by Regeneration (a service user)

I do wish to remain anonymous because I have heard from other patients that they (the Practice) try to remove them from the Practice completely after the submitted a complaint. They didn't say its directly related to the complaint but it seems they'll use any excuse afterwards to remove you. The attitude and toxicity I experienced at this Practice needs investigated.
