"Minor injuries very abrasive receptionist"

About: Royal South Hants Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I went to the minor injuries, I had cut my finger with a bread knife, I had dressed it quite well but I believed I needed to receive professional care.

Yes the waiting time was 90 minutes, fair enough, I am diabetic and wanted to see if I had time to get something to eat and drink. I was told it would be better to stay put.

There was a major incident which occurred after I had been there 30 minutes. after it was resolved, I thought perhaps they needed time to recover themselves so I asked if they had a time frame so I could get something to eat or drink, the receptionist who by the way had eaten and drunk constantly in the time I was there (apart from the incident time) looked at me with fury when I asked if they knew when I was likely to be seen. and said in a hostile and very unkind way that they had a major incident and they didnt know when I would be seen. I said I was only asking a simple question. Then they got a head of steam up and really told me almost yelling that they were telling me they did not know.

Now maybe I am not used to modern manners, but they did not show me kindness, compassion, courtesy, or understanding. I was very interested to find that the nurse who dressed my finger also had this attitude although they were brusque not out and out rude.

Dear 'elderly lady'

I am sorry to read of your experience and the reception you received from the staff.

If you would like to contact patientsupportservices@uhs.nhs.uk or telephone 02381206325 we can take a few more details and ascertain if your care was at our Trust or another provider. It is possible that if your care was received at the Minor Injuries Unit at the Royal South Hants we will need to share your feedback to Care UK who manage the service.
