"Daughter's hospital stay-complicated appendicitis"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh)

(as a parent/guardian),

Our daughter, aged 12 and autistic, recently spent 3 weeks at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh whilst undergoing treatment for complicated appendicitis.

I already submitted another story but in this story, I would like to say our  thanks to several  staff who deserve a special mention as they  went the "extra mile" and /or stood out from the rest of the staff  (who were also great!)

1. staff nurse Kayleigh:  Kayleigh you have  been fantastic with our daughter, and I feel very strongly that you have  invested a lot of energy in building up a trusting relationship with our daughter, who told me she enjoyed her chats with you and it really made a huge difference to me, too. You were always so kind and interested .

2.Dr Cecile -  most of the doctors were great and patient with our daughter but you stood out by your exceptionally gentle and compassionate manner and huge empathy that you showed us. You have exceptional communication skills!

3. Adam ( the anaesthetist) - you were great speaking to our daughter and had such a warm, kind and compassionate manner and it made a big  positive difference.

4. The surgeon who did our daughter's operation (forgot name) - for explaining everything in great detail, drawing a diagram and really taking your time answering my questions late at night and during a long shift, and for not rushing the conversation. Astounding!

Dear Rucki,

I am one of the Senior Charge Nurses in the ward your daughter was in last month.

First of all, I would like to say how much I appreciate you taking the time to post about your daughters stay in RHCYP. I am really pleased to see that it has been a positive experience for you both in what was surely a very stressful time for you all.

I will take great pleasure in passing on your lovely feedback to the staff you mentioned and to the ward team as a whole.

I hope your daughter is doing well at home after such a long stay with us and that she is well and truly on her way back to full recovery.

Best Wishes

Catherine
