Independent research is very important at Care Opinion. We want to know how we are doing, be stimulated and challenged with new ideas, and gain insight into how online feedback can make a difference to the culture, quality and safety of healthcare.

We love to see new research studies coming out which relate to Care Opinion. Looking back over 2023, we were able to add five new studies to our research outputs page, most of which we also discussed in one of our research chats throughout the year.

A glimpse behind the organisational curtain

Lauren Ramsey et al's paper brings a novel "dramaturgical" perspective to bear on how trusts respond (or don't) to online feedback.

Developing a research community within an online healthcare feedback platform

Beth Fylan et al explore how Care Opinion is being developed further so that people who have shared a story can also choose to support research.

Using and loving the NHS

Ellen Stewart included an analysis of stories shared on Care Opinion in her book How Britain loves the NHS, to explore the nuances of a relationship based on gratitude, vulnerability, but also a desire for things to be better.

Feedback is indeed a dainty dish to set before the Trust

A second paper in 2023 from Dr Lauren Ramsey of Leeds University, offering "five key suggestions to inform policy and practice and support the use and usefulness of online patient feedback for organisational learning".

Health service improvement using positive patient feedback

And finally, a review of 68 studies examining the impact of positive patient feedback on healthcare staff, and indicating a range of benefits including improved motivation and wellbeing, better home and work relationships, and improved staff retention.
